John Michael Grentzer
CHS Class of 1966
Jul 19, 1948 - Dec 25, 2015

John Michael Grentzer, age 67, of Camarillo, joined the Lord on December 25, 2015 after a fierce, year-long fight with lymphoma.

John was born July 19, 1948 to John Grentzer and Natalia Klugman in Pensacola, FL. Like most Navy kids, his childhood was spent stationed across the globe including the Philippines, Virginia, Coronado, CA, and Camarillo, CA. After graduating from Coronado High School in 1966, he went to Westminster College on football and baseball scholarships and graduated with a Bachelor of Science. He moved back to Camarillo where he finished at the top of his Ventura County Sheriff's Training Academy class. During his time with VCSD he started the local Safe Ride chapter and initiated bicycle safety classes for all the public and private schools in Camarillo. His commitment to the safety of his community was rewarded when he was presented with the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service award. After retiring from VCSD, he spent almost three decades as a special investigator.

During his time with the Sheriff's Department he met and married his first wife, Marcie and had his only daughter, Jaclyn. He was a committed father who made sure that his daughter grew up to be self-sufficient, independent, and hard-working. He went to every track meet, volleyball game, and tennis match and only ever missed watching her run in one race out of over 500.

Three years ago he met and married his wife, Sunisa. He was as dedicated to her as he was to his daughter, and helped her start a successful business in Simi Valley. His devotion to her was evident every time he spoke her name.

Aside from his dedication to his daughter and wife, he was also active in his community. He was the President of the Las Posas Green South Homeowner's Association for 10 years, a track starter for high school track throughout Ventura County for 15 years, an umpire for the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Parks district for 30 years, and played in the Senior Softball World Championships at least 4 times.

He is survived by his daughter, Jaclyn; his wife, Sunisa; as well as his siblings, Diane Grentzer, Richard Grentzer, and Margaret Connelly.

I didn't know John well, but reading this obituary really shows me what a stand-up guy he was.  Rest in peace, John.
