Sarah(Sally)Humphreys Grant

Sarah (Sally) Humphreys Grant passed away at her beloved Pleasure Point home Wednesday August 18, 2004. She was surrounded by her loving son and daughter, family, friends and Mom Cat. She fought a battle in the last years of her life that was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Sally was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on December 3, 1948. She graduated from Coronado High School in 1966 and attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and Humboldt State College and graduated in 1971.

She moved to Santa Cruz in the early 1970's with her husband Jeff and they became involved with the first UC Santa Cruz rugby team and all its zaniness. Moving a Coronado tradition to the streets of Pleasure Point, they hosted the original Pleasure Point Bike Race that continues to this day.

With the births of her children, Dan and Nora, Sally's roots grew deep into her home and surrounding community. She was active in the Live Oak 4-H Club and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Sally completed her certification in Swedish massage in he early 90's and continued her massage practice from home until her death. Sally's love of art and color was expressed through the whimsical quilts she created and the home she kept. Ocean swims with her friends brought her strength and tranquility.

The loss of Sally will resonate throughout the community and beyond. She will be remembered for her love of family, friends neighbors, home, cats, her quirky sense of humor and gracious hospitality. Sundays at the beach won't be the same without her.

What a lovely obit. It is not hard to understand the comments if you ever met Sally. I'm so glad I got to spend some time with her at our 30th reunion. I'm sure everyone who knew her considers their lives richer. Susy Rutter Chamberlin
